Mulberry is the name given to various types of deciduous trees or shrubs of the Morus genus in the Moraceae family cultivated for their palatable fruits.
The genus Morus comprises around 10 species[1] of small to mid-sized trees. The genus includes red mulberry (Morus rubra) and white mulberry (Morus alba).
The leaves are alternately arranged and are lobed or non-overlapping, heart-shaped, serrated (dentate), and pointed (tapered at one point).
The trees produce small greenish-yellow flowers in dense clusters and an oval cluster fruit made from individual stone fruits.
Mulberry can grow to a height of 15 meters (49 feet) and has a relatively short lifespan. Mulberry is believed to be native to China.
