These flowering plants are also known as elephant ears or cobbler’s plants, as their leaves are too thin and large and the flowers are too pretty, that together they form a bouquet. They are semi-perennial and delicate, which makes them popular in gardens around the world.

The flowers can range from dark purple to bright pink. The plants are 12 to 24 inches tall and are grouped into an inflorescence. Bergenia plants are great for borders as well as rock gardens.
