  • The color of their fur is reddish maroon all over their body and tail.
  • Their facial skin is gray to bluish, and their lower lips are pale. They have broad, dark-colored faces with large, expressive eyes.

Maroon Langur Facts

Presbytis Rubicunda

  • These charismatic Old World primates live in groups of 2-13 individuals, led by a dominant male, and spend most of their time in trees.
  • Red Leaf Monkeys are territorial and will challenge any intruder within their home range.
  • The male species emit a loud call to mark their territory and warn their rivals to stay away.
  • They eat fruit but avoid sweet, ripe fruit because the sugar upsets the delicate balance of their complex stomach.
  • To maintain a balance in their diet, red-leaf monkeys consume the topsoil layer of termite mounds.
