The Lomami red colobus[1] (Piliocolobus parmentieri) is native to central Africa.
- Like Lang’s red colobus, these Congo monkeys were treated as a subspecies of the Central African red colobus (Piliocolobus foai), but more recent taxonomies generally treat it as a separate species.
- One of the most striking features of Lomami red colobus monkeys is their lack of thumbs. Instead, a lump is left where the thumb should be, making it look like it has been cut off.
- The other fingers are extended to allow climbing, forming a hook to grasp branches. Like many climbing mammals, the Lomami red colobus has elongated limbs.
- Male Lomami colobus monkeys tend to be larger than females. This species has a mass of 7-11 kg.
- The length of the head and body is generally 53 to 63 cm, while the tail length is 60 to 70 cm. The head is relatively small, and the belly is round.
